Kate Holzmueller is an artist and illustrator who believes that things don’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. She works in a mix of watercolor, gouache, acrylic and digital mediums and loves blending realism with stylization to create work that is expressive and fun.

As a child, Kate always knew she wanted to be an artist. But at some point while studying art in Normandy, France, she started to doubt herself, convinced she wasn’t talented enough. It wasn’t until years later—while creating alongside children at after school groups—that she rediscovered the joy of making art and drawing every day.

Kate’s work often features animals, plants and landscapes, and she has a particular affinity for whales and birds. She believes in capturing a sense of movement, story and personality in her subjects—likely influenced by her large collection of picture books that she enjoys reading to her first grade students.

Her work has been collected in the United States, Mexico, Canada and England. She dreams of collaborating with conservation groups—if that’s you, she’d love to connect—and museums to use her art in support of wildlife protection.

Kate believes that art should be an escape—colorful, playful and full of possibility. She believes in accessibility and currently sells her art on stickers, button pins, and blank cards. She would love to have more licensing opportunities in the future to share as much joy with as many people as possible.
